Kicking off 2010 Candace style!!

So as most of you know, 2009 was a hard, probably the hardest, year of my life. You wouldn't believe how happy I was that it ENDED! With all of my health problems and ughhh......it was just one thing after another. However, I am happy happy happy to report that 2010 has started out just absolutely amazing. I guess my good karma is catching up to me, finally! Thannnnk goodness!! I'm so ready for my break! So far, two amazing things have happened this year. My brother moved home AND Jenn got a job working with me! The start of 2010 has inspired soooo much confidence in the rest of year. Thank you again to everyone that has been there for me through the last year....I would NOT have made it without each one of you.
So, along with "badass 2010" theme - my friend, Linda, got promoted last week! Congrats! You are so perfect for that job and we are lucky to have you there!
So last weekend was a blast! We went to Stage to celebrate my bro moving home. It was a goooood time. lol. Then shopping with the bff all day Sunday! This coming weekend is the Bridal expo and the weekend after that is Markie's birthday & Randi's baby shower! I can't wait to see my bcbs friends! Misssss ya'll!!

Hi Candace. Like you, weight loss surgery, May 15, 2009. Down 110 lbs. Sweet right? I found that you also have/had drop foot. Did it go away? I'm hoping its from crossing my legs (the feminine way). Please tell me whats going on with your drop foot. I am also desperate. Thanks again.

Dr. Sethi,
I am 23 years old and underwent gastric bypass surgery on December 1st, 2008. I have since lost 96 pounds and counting. A few weeks ago, I began to have numbness/tingling in my calves and feet, but I thought nothing of it and dismissed it to a nerve trying to heal from my surgery. But last Friday, I began having trouble walking. I noticed that I was picking my right leg up higher. Then I began falling. I went to the er and the er Dr. got me an appt with a neurologist that day – who diagnosed me with drop foot. He did an emg (didn’t find out much info from that) and then ordered an MRI and Lumbar Punture. I looked up my symptoms online and found something called Slimmers Paralysis. It fits me perfect, but my Dr. has not said anything about it. But after reading your blog, I know now that it could very possibly be from crossing my legs. I was crossing my legs ALL the time. So, if I stop, my drop foot could possibly just go away on its own without surgical intervention? Please help me as I am desperate for answers. This has been devistating to me. I am a very healthy person and this just doesn’t make sense. Thank you for taking time to read this.

Hi Brad! Awesome news about your weight loss! Congrats! My foot drop was the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with in my life, but THANK GOD, it is completely gone. It took several months, an AFO brace, 5 months of 2x week phsical therapy, 2 spinal taps, 5 EMG's, and countless Dr.'s appts and tests, but its GONE! I have 2 Neurologists who both gave me different answers on why I got this, but the one that makes the most sense is that the combination of crossing my legs (when my body was not used to this) and not getting enough Thiamine, caused foot drop and Neuropathy. I had to wear and AFO brace for 6 months ANYTIME I needed to walk...even from my bedroom to the bathroom. I haven't worn my brace since September. YAY!! At the point that I was diagnosed with FD, I could not bend or move my toes on either foot, or move my right foot up or down at all. As you may know, there is a 1-4 scale for Foot Drop - 1 being the worst you can have and 4 being the best case scenario. I was a level 1 for 4 months with little recovery. I started noticing a difference the 4th month and then my recovery was rapid after that because I started taking bariatric vitamins religiously. However, I have irreversible nerve damage that I will have forever....but I can deal with that as long as I can walk, ya know? My feet just feel like they are asleep 24/7. The tingling is getting somewhat better but my Dr. anticipates that I will never fully recover. I will definitely be keeping you in my thoughts. I know exactly how you are feeling and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Have you had any tests? EMG, Spinal tap, MRI, etc?? Have you seen a Neurologist? You have a hard road ahead of you but it WILL get better. Also, have you been taking your bariatric supplements??
